Holland, like England, has a no smoking law for bars, restaurants, cafes, etc. However, we were reliably informed by a seed seller that such does not apply in coffee shops: that is, you could smoke tobacco joints there. Lo and behold, our first visit to Basjoe showed this to be the case. Along with our selection from the menu came some papers, an ashtray and a couple of strips of cardboard for roaches. We licked open Camels and skinned up some Jack Herer. Not like yesterday's Widow's Weed from Utrecht, but well good nevertheless. However, one was more than enough for me, so I later lit up a straight. Three drags in, the owner was at our table, gently removing the cigarette from my hand. "No cigarettes." In order to satisfy my nicotine receptors, I was forced to break open another Camel and reach for the Jack. The sky was no less grey when we left, but the de Hooch in the Rijksmuseum, man, the Saenredam....
